Cancellation of swimming part of the 5th Berlin Flussbad Cup on 25.08.2019
The alternative date of the 5th Berlin Flussbad Cup on 25.08.2019 had to be cancelled - the reason for this is the current algal bloom in the Spree. We invite all swimmers and all those interested in the Fluss Bad Berlin to join uns for an information event on the subject of water quality in the Flussbad Garden.
698 swimmers between 16 and 81 years old registered for this year's cup to try out the swimming area of the future Fluss Bad Berlin and get personally acquainted with the potential of the urban development project along the Museum Island. For the first time 125 swimmers in the competition part would have swum the Olympic distance of 1,500 m against time from the Monbijou Bridge to the Humboldt Forum and back.
Compared to last year with 500 participants taking part in the Berlin Flussbad Cup, the numbers of registrations for this year increased significantly.
The purification and cleaning of the Spree Canal and the access to the water are essential objectives of the project Fluss Bad Berlin. In order to inform you about why and how we work on it, we invite you to join us this Sunday in our Flussbad Garden - one of the most beautiful public gardens in Berlin, which is located just a few steps from the future swimming area in the garden of the former State Council building. We will speak of the challenges regarding cleanliness, cleaning and recreational use of the Spree. We can also offer the opportunity to get in touch with the filtered water in our pilot plant "Testfilter" for some interested attendees - bring your swimming suits!
We also set up a large table in the garden where we want to have a picnic and exchange ideas with all our partners, riverside friends, residents and interested people in the shadow of the wonderful Limes. Come numerous and bring your own food and drinks! The Flussbad Garden kiosk offers coffee, cool drinks and snacks at reasonable prices.
