Information on our 2nd public Flussbad Cup Berlin 2016

On July 3rd we will - again after a succefull event in 2015 - organize our swimming competition "Flussbad Cup Berlin" in the so called "Kupfergaben" next to Berlin's Museum Island.

Information on 2nd Berlin Flussbad Cup

The Flussbad Cup is a 1,000-metres swimming competition held in the Spree Canal directly against the panoramic backdrop of Berlin's historic Museum Island. The event is organised by the Flussbad Berlin Association in cooperation with the Berlin Triathlon Union. In addition to the actual swimming competition, the event is designed to show what it could be like to have a clean Spree at the centre of the city. By inviting the general public to watch skilled swimmers race through downtown Berlin, the organisers also seek to call attention to the pleasurable advantages of working to protect water sources everywhere.

Competition and Timed Swimming

Date: 3 July 2016 at the Kupfergraben in Berlin-Mitte

Organised by: Flussbad Berlin e.V. in cooperation with the Berlin Triathlon Union.

The event is expected to begin at 2:30 pm and end at approx 6 pm. We will publish a detailed schedule of the day's events, including registration times, individual heats and the award ceremony, as soon as possible prior to the event on this page.

This year, in addition to the swimming competition aimed at experienced triathletes and open-water swimmers, we are also holding a non-competitive, time-based swim for ambitious recreational swimmers.

All important information, including the registration form for participants, can be found on this page.

Getting to the Flussbad Cup

The swimming route in the Spree Canal runs approximately 1,000 metres along Museum Island. Participants will start in the water at the southern end of the Monbijou Bridge and swim all the way to a turning point just prior to the Schlossbrücke (at Lustgarten/ Unter den Linden) and back.

Both the start and finish lines will be located at the southern end of the Monbijou Bridge (Am Kupfergraben).

We strongly recommend travelling to the competition area by bike or via public transport, seeing as parking opportunities in the area are very limited. The following public transport stops will bring you closest to the event site: Friedrichstraße S-Bahn and U-Bahn station, Hackescher Markt S-Bahn station, Oranienburger Straße S-Bahn station, Oranienburger Tor U-Bahn station and the Monbijouplatz tram stop.

Important Notice

If storms or heavy rainfalls occur shortly before the competition, it is possible that the quality of the water along the swimming route will decrease significantly as a result of the discharge of mixed wastewater from the sewage system. If this is the case, the competition might have to be cancelled at the last minute.
