Technical information about the 3rd Flussbad Berlin Cup 2017
The Spree Canal runs along Museum Island and is not designated as an official bathing area by the State of Berlin. Prior to the 3rd Flussbad Berlin Cup a series of examinations as well as safety precautions are therefore undertaken.
In order to avoid any risks due to possible diseases, the water in the area of the competition will be tested for microbes by a specialist laboratory on two different days shortly before the event. The results will be published here.
In the run-up to the event, divers will also search the swimming area for potential objects, hindrances and any additional risks. Moveable objects will be removed and dangerous spots will be marked clearly visible. The task of securing and safeguarding the route will be handled by the teams at the Berlin branches of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) and the German Lifesaving Association (DLRG).
BLOCKING OF THE CANAL
The Spree Canal will be blocked off by the Berlin Waterways and Shipping Authority (Wasserstraßenschiffahrtsamt) for shipping on the day of the event. This means that no ships can enter the Spree Canal for the duration of the event.
