The Flussbad Association

We founded the non-profit "Flussbad Association" in early November 2012. Today, our team and supporting members consist of individuals with far-reaching talents and diverse opinions. Each person contributes their own unique approach to the Flussbad idea, working to promote the project in every stage of development and ultimately bring it to fruition.

The Flussbad Association is fully committed to fostering and implementing the Flussbad project as a common group endeavour. For members and supporters, there are plenty of activities and work to be done: whether it's helping out, publicising the project, providing advice, attracting new supporters, politicising the message or publishing articles. In doing so, these individuals represent the Flussbad idea and see themselves as part of a social movement that seeks to open up and enrich the public space. For us, the city is first and foremost a site of participation, which is why we maintain an intense exchange with other urban initiatives that pursue similar concerns. In this sense, the Flussbad Association sees the project as engendering a highly contemporary form of recovered public space.

Association Objectives

The aim of the non-profit Flussbad Association is to foster the development of the Flussbad project from beginning to end. This process involves several stages; in the first phase, the association further elaborates the project idea by engaging in ongoing concept work and by commissioning feasibility studies and further expert reports. The second phase involves the actual realisation of the Flussbad project.  Moreover, the association engages in publicising the project and both promoting and supporting its increasing visibility in Berlin. In all phases, the Flussbad Association will continue to seek to enter into a dialogue with the general public, local residents and future users. An active and transparent co-operation with the Berlin Senate Administration and other institutions, most importantly in the form of discussions, suggestions and an exchange of opinions, is also essential for reaching the goal of the realisation of the Flussbad project.

The Flussbad Association is the initiator and body responsible for all direct and ongoing work on the project. We look forward to welcoming all new members interested in joining us. Of course, one important task on this journey involves facilitating the further financing of each project phase. For this purpose, the Flussbad Association collects donations and accepts supporting members ("Fördermitglieder"). We also apply for funding from various other sources.

Our work focuses on communicating the Flussbad idea to the public in a manner that reflects the open and diverse makeup of our association through diverse and lively discussions evolving round the topic. We are always eager to get as much input as possible with the knowledge that in doing so, the project might change shape and thus gain a new dimension of democratic legitimacy.

The Flussbad Association uses this website to report exhaustively and as promptly as possible about the project and any related activities. All existing information, feasibility studies and schedules are made available to the public here. We will also engage in PR and press work for as long as the project is in development. It goes without saying that the Flussbad Association will also always seek to achieve complete transparency – not only with regard to the project, but also concerning our own conduct and activities.
